Founders of the Martha's Vineyard African American Film Festival Stephanie Tavares-Rance and Floyd Rance sat down with HFPA journalist KJ Matthews on the eve of this year's 10-day event to talk about celebrating 20 years of this festival. They talk about its humble beginnings, from a handful of people in a theater that could hold hundreds, how it grew into the prestigious and star-studded event it is today, what it's like to be big enough to have guests ranging from Spike Lee, Tyler Perry, and Yara Shahidi to the Reverand Al Sharpton and Barack & Michelle Obama, and more.
